The main goal of conservative dentistry is to achieve a better and more beautiful smile thanks to healthy and functional teeth. Conservative dentistry is focused on the repair and treatment of teeth and root canals using aesthetic fillings and tartar removal.
The most common intervention in conservative dentistry is the treatment of dental caries. Dental caries, one of the most common diseases of today, is caused by bacteria in the oral cavity that gradually spread to healthy tooth parts.
Initial form of caries is treated with fluoride, whereas in most cases a mechanical intervention is required. After caries is removed, healthy tooth parts are filled with specific material to maintain its vitality and function. Tooth filling materials are different and range from classic fillings to porcelain fillings, which are a more durable, resilient and aesthetically pleasing type of filling. Also, this type of filling reduces the possibility of secondary caries. At MB DENT clinic we use inlay, onlay and overlay fillings made of integral ceramics in CAD/CAM technology, which perfectly replace the tooth defect. The main difference between inlay and onlay filling is the size of the tooth surface they are restoring. Inlay covers the upper central part of the tooth, and when it is necessary to intervene in the lateral area of the tooth and in the cusps, we use onlay or overlay.
Endodontics is a basic conservative procedure that, using a specific therapy, aims to save a tooth or its root.
Root canal treatment is a fundamental conservative procedure. The endodontic procedure begins with the removal of the affected dental tissue, removal of the inflamed dental pulp and chemical or mechanical cleaning of the dental canal.
Due to the specific and complex structure and shape of the canals within the root, the endodontic procedure requires that the length of the canal is accurately determined in order to perform the intervention correctly. For this purpose, in addition to monitoring the process of cleaning and filling the canal, we use a special electronic instrument for measuring the length of the root canal (apex locator) and digital X-ray images of small dimensions that provide complete visualization of the structure of the tooth root with minimal radiation. A tooth that undergoes endodontics, if properly treated, can serve the patient for many years and subsequently, if necessary, support a bridge or crown. The main purpose of endodontics is to preserve the natural tooth.
Tartar includes hard dental deposits on the teeth, most commonly in the area of the lower front teeth. Coffee, cigarettes, coloured drinks, but also the composition of saliva influence the formation of calculus. Most commonly it occurs in people with poor oral hygiene. If not removed regularly, it can cause inflammation, bleeding, gum withdrawal, periodontitis. Also, bacteria that build up on hard deposits can dissolve the enamel and make teeth more susceptible to caries. Therefore, it is important to maintain good oral hygiene, to have regular check-ups, to control the formation of calculus and to remove it in time.
After the calculus is removed, sandblasting is often done to remove pigmentation and stains from the tooth surface that cannot disappear by brushing. Sodium bicarbonate powder blended together with water and pressurized air jet is used for the sandblasting.
It focuses on the prevention and treatment of baby teeth. Working with parents is essential to get them to bring their children in for a timely first check-up. It is important for the child to create a trusting and friendly relationship with their dentist.
In paediatric dentistry, we use preventative fluoridation and sealing procedures for fissures and pits on teeth. At MB dent we strive to make the first visit to the dentist a positive experience, without anxiety or discomfort.
It is advisable to take your child for a first check-up at the age of one year so they get used to the dental environment. In any case, a first visit is recommended before dental treatment is actually needed so as to avoid negative experiences and to reduce fear of dentist in the future.
